Circumcision is the most common operation performed on male children in Muslims and the United States. Although it is frequently performed, it is not completely free of complications. We have rewiewed the patient charts of circumcision complications which were managed in our department. Between 1999 to 2003, six children were admitted to Adnan Menderes University Medical Faculty, Department of Pediatric Surgery with complications of circumcision. There were seven complications in these six cases. None of the circumcisions had been performed by surgeons. The majority of this ritual circumcisions are still performed out of hospital set-up and major complications still occured. Circumcision of children should be performed by surgeons in hospitals. This application will have a major role for the prevention of complications of circumcision.
